Job Description
El Pueblito is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Bracebridge, Ontario, and we are looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our team. This is a temporary position, and we are seeking a dedicated professional with a love for Mexican cuisine and a strong ability to lead a kitchen team.
As a Sous Chef, you will be a key player in our kitchen, assisting the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation and cooking activities.
* Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff, ensuring all procedures are followed and standards are met.
* Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes, specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine.
* Help to create new menu items and specials, contributing to the restaurant's culinary creativity.
* Manage kitchen inventory and ordering, ensuring a steady supply of fresh ingredients.
* Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen sanitation.
* Train new kitchen staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food.
* Work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure, and support a positive team atmosphere.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* A minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience - as a cook in a commercial kitchen is mandatory, with previous experience in a leadership or sous chef role considered a strong asset.
* Proven knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety regulations, and inventory management.
* Experience with Mexican cuisine is a significant advantage.
* Strong communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
